What BMW 5 Series Cars Are Currently Available from Dealers?

The 5 Series is a mid-sized executive class car and is one of the longest running series of models from BMW. The first 5 Series cars went on sale way back in 1972 and since then over 5 million units have been sold by the German company. Two body styles have been made - saloon and touring.

The BMW 5 Series is now in its sixth generation. The first generation was the E12, which was on sale from 1972–1981. The second generation was the E28 which was sold between 1982 and 1988. The third generation was the E34, which was sold between 1988 and 1996, meaning that this is probably the earliest generation which can still be found on the road can be bought from used car dealers.  The fourth generation E39 cars were manufactured between 1995 and 2003. The fifth generation was the E60/E61 which first went on sale in 2003 and was manufactured up to 2010.

The sixth generation of the BMW 5 Series which is currently being manufactured is the F10/F11. This is currently on sale at new car dealers, and comes with a choice of 7 engines. At the top of the range is a 4.4-litre N63 petrol engine. 4 petrol engines are available in total, alongside a choice of 3 different diesel engines for buyers who place a high priority on fuel efficiency.

Also currently on sale at new car dealers are the 5 Series Gran Turismo (F07), and the BMW 5 Series ActiveHybrid. The Gran Turismo car first went on sale in 2009. It is a crossover car with elements of a coupe within a unique and distinctive body style. The ActiveHybrid is a hybrid electric model which comes with the full range of BMW’s fuel saving technologies and is the most environmentally friendly car that the firm currently produces.
